Dear Readers,
Ahh….love is in the air. It’s Valentine’s Day and I’m just going over the checklist of things people are doing to make it a special one.
Send Flowers…check!

Attend Valentine’s Day party…check
Authorize shooting a satellite out of the air…che..what?!
Looks like the US Government isn’t going to wait and let positive thinking work its magic. They’re thinking negatively…but this time for our benefit! From CNN.Com:
The Pentagon is planning to shoot down a broken spy satellite expected to hit the Earth in early March, the Associated Press has learned.
U.S. officials said Thursday that the option preferred by the Bush administration will be to fire a missile from a U.S. Navy cruiser, and shoot down the satellite before it enters Earth’s atmosphere.
The disabled satellite is expected to hit the Earth the first week of March. Officials said the Navy would likely shoot it down before then, using a special missile modified for the task.
Air Force Gen. Gene Renuart, who heads of U.S. Northern Command, told The AP last month that the size of the satellite suggests that some number of pieces will not burn up as the orbiting vehicle re-enters the Earth’s atmosphere and will hit the ground.
So they accomplish two things. They destroy every piece of it so no one can get their hands on it and also we on the ground won’t get pelted with debris. Knowing the Earth is 98% uninhabited, (70% is water and the other 28% we either can’t get to or don’t want to) that leaves just a small area that this satellite could hit a human. But it could. And to be safe, we’re going to blow it to hell!
A U.S. official confirmed that the spy satellite is designated by the military as US 193, according to an AP report.
It was launched in December 2006 but almost immediately lost power and cannot be controlled. It carried a sophisticated and secret imaging sensor but the satellite’s central computer failed shortly after launch.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the information is classified as secret.
Then why is this person blabbing?? Ever notice blogging and blabbing are really close sounding? Coincidence?
Other details about the missile and the targeting were not immediately available.
Apparently Mr. Blabber-mouth isn’t so high up!
But the decision involves several U.S. agencies, including the National Security Agency, the Department of Homeland Defense and the State Department.
Shooting down a satellite is particularly sensitive because of the controversy surrounding China’s anti-satellite test last year, when Beijing shot down one of its defunct weather satellites, drawing immediate criticism from the U.S. and other countries.
I understand that the government isn’t doing this for our benefit directly. It’s mostly to cover their own behinds. But they recognize that there may be problems ahead if we let this sucker burn naturally. They’re not hoping for the best and using “The Secret” to wish this problem away. They’re getting after it. Taking control and trying to prevent more problems in the future. The Earth is using the law of attraction to bring the satellite down to Earth, but we’re using the Law of Action to dispose of it.
So tonight, as you canoodle with a loved one, sharing chocolate dipped strawberries and champagne, take a second to remember that the US Government loves you too. And are willing to blow crap up for you to prove it!
Love,
Craig J
